Garden Furniture and Accessories

Choosing garden furniture is a difficult task as there are so many types of items that one can buy. The first thing to know before buying any outdoor furniture is that the items are going to be exposed to the environment. In North America our climate is either very cold or very hot. On top of that you can add all the smog, dust, soil and humans who will come into contact with the furniture. So before you buy any furniture, know the environment, location, style and how much you want to spend.

There are garden accessories for every type of budget and there are just as many deals. Unlike the past, today one can easily compare prices online and get the best deal. Therefore, do your home work well.

Once you have a budget in mind, stop wasting time looking at expensive garden accessories that you cannot afford. A budget helps you focus your attention on your needs and what stores you can visit. Next determine what it is you want. Do you want a dining table and if so for how many people?, do you want it to come with a large patio umbrella, an ottoman? do you want just a coffee table with some chairs? What type of chairs do you want? lazy, swinging or rocking? Next, if you plan to use this furniture indoors, make sure it is lightweight and portable.

Is the furniture going to out in the garden lawn or under a patio? Remember sunlight can fade colors and damage most fabrics rather fast. The type of fabric you choose should be able to withstand both hot and cold weather.

Do you want it to be traditional furniture, Victorian, Country, Asian or contemporary? If you plan to use the garden all year around, comfort should be at the top of the list. Relaxing in the garden lawn on comfortable furniture for extended periods of time is as close to Nirvana as many of us will ever attain. If you select metal, remember these items get either too hot or too cold and thus you may need some type of padding.

If you are not keen on maintenance, then buy something that is plastic or aluminum- these materials need minimal maintenance and are easy to clean. Both metal and wood need high maintenance if you want to keep up with the decor. Most wooden furniture needs to be polished and repainted; and many cushions will ultimately need replacement.

Most steel and iron outdoor garden accessories need to be repainted to prevent rust. If it rains often in your area, you also need to get a cover for the furniture to prevent premature rusting

If you are not sure what you want, talk to a furniture sale person and get suggestions. When you go to a store, check out the furniture style and look for quality and reliability. Remember most outdoor garden furniture looks great in showrooms but once it is placed outdoors, their "true" colors are revealed very fast.
